CINDY - Jul '15

Nothing amazes me anymore.  Generally on a day to day basis, there is a route that I follow in terms of feeding the strays.  One stop off point is the local cemetary, because there is water, which is used to fill the empty bottles.  However this particular day, it was a case of filling the bottles up once I had finished feeding all the strays, as water was needed for the dogs.  To the right of the entrance into the cemetary, there are some big metal grey bins.   I had filled up the empty bottles and as I put them in the car, something made me go back.  Why I have no idea.  But there under the big grey metal bin was a tiny little puppy.  My heart just sank!!!  I couldn't believe that someone had dumped a tiny helpless little puppy to fend for itself.  It had no siblings, but the person who did this obviously knew that it would be spotted eventually.

I picked up this little baby and discovered she was a female.  I held her tightly to my chest and once again in my mind, my thoughts were, what was I going to do with her?  I didn't have suitable resources to keep her anywhere safe and sadly no-one wanted to help either.  But first when I looked closely at her, she had 100's of ticks on her body and inside her ears.  She was a mess.  She was taken to the local vet, who sprayed her generously, to eradicate all these horrible monsters. She came home for a couple of days, which allowed me to find a solution for her.  I rang my friends in Athens to see if they would take a puppy, and help me to get her better and everything else that needs doing with puppies.  I was so happy because they agreed.  So a couple of days later, we set off for Athens.  She was such a good little girl in the car.

When we got to Athens, Silvana and Alexandros fussed over her.   As time went by, she grew and went from strength to strength. I could not afford to keep her at this pension for ever, so my mission was to find her a home.  In the UK, I wrote to a couple of people who had helped me before.  One was the ARK.  They agreed that CINDY could go to them, which meant they would continue with her care and match her with the rigth adopters.  The day came when we crossed the waters and landed in the UK. For CINDY though, her stay was not long, as suitable adopters who visited the ARK, fell in love with her as soon as they saw her. So once prepared and given the all clear, she left the ARK with her kind new adoptive humans.  A lovely ending to a baby that was dumped in the local cemetary, left to fend for herself.  How heartless some people can be, but this is the general mentality in Greece.
